    Purple Lustre;
    This generic colour may have been one of the first to register in AE Gray’s mind during his regular visits to see the ceramics at Manchester’s Art Gallery in the 1880s and 90s
    . Early examples of
    Gray’s Pottery
    pink/purple lustre exist marked with backstamp B, indicating production during the first fifteen years of the company’s existence. This may have been the pre-curser to the wide range of colours developed, culminating in Gloria Lustre***
    Teapot/Coffee Pot with Lid
    > Markings-
    RARE 27.5x35.5mm Backstamp with additional Stamp Transfer Edge
    ; N5 in Black, Yellow and Green;  This wider clipper mark was introduced to cover the larger manufacturers' backstops in use after the Second World War
    > Overstamp reads "PAREEK JOHNSON BROS ENGLAND BY"
    > Pareek- Registered in 1925 and refers to White /Ivory Body Colour
    > Johnson Bros-
    largest supplier of white ware to
    Gray’s Pottery
    , from the mid-1920s through until the late 1950s
    > BY- f
    rom 1942-45 the single letter B and from 1945-52 the two letters BY (imposed by government regulations regarding the prices that could be charged)
    > Handprinted Gold pattern number A8024
    > Condition- Teapot Handle bottom has cracked and been re-glued (See photos 7 & 8) but doesn't appear to have been disconnected from the tea pot as the upper portion of the handle is perfect

    > Markings- 21.0x34.5mm Backstamp N0 in Black, Yellow and Green;
    Several Pots in the pattern range A8150-A8400 have come to light which have N0 or N1 backstops.  The designs would have been created in about 1946/7 and the only logical explanation is that (Stoke) backstamp transfers were in short supply and so a few early (Hanley) ones were pressed into use!; Mark N0 (1931-33) omits the words 'HAND-PAINTED'
