    Description

These two sweet and petite hand painted and glazed terracotta pieces are both stamped Made in England on their undersides.
The Motto Ware open sugar bowl -- which reads Take a Little Sugar -- measures approximately 1 1/2" high and 2 1/2" in diameter at its widest point, and 2" across the top. The base measures approximately 1 3/4".
The tiny cup is decorated with a seaside scene of a sailboat on the water and birds flying on either side of it -- perhaps a nod to the coastal town of Torquay from which these, and other pieces of the ware, originated -- and incorporates bright yellow into its design (a color not often found in these works). It measures 1 5/8" high and 1 7/8" in diameter (not including handle). There are a couple of rough areas around the base which clearly took place during its creation, as they are beneath the glaze.
Both pieces are glazed inside and out, with their natural red Watcombe clay lining their interiors.
Please examine all photos closely, as photos are to be considered part of the description.
