Description
Offered is a truly lovely cup and saucer by the English firm of EJD Bodley, Burslem. This firm was active from 1875-1892. Originally called Hill Pottery, it became known as Crown Works from 1882 until their bankruptcy in 1892. The cup and saucer have a flowering dogwood branch pattern in brown over ivory. The cup has a gold band 1/2" below the rim and both the cup and the saucer appear to have had a very narrow gold band around the rim which is now mostly rubbed off. The saucer is of the small dish variety, for those who want to drink their tea from their saucers. This is beautiful set in excellent condition. No cracks, and the only very small chip I can see is in the bottom of the dish, right over the branch, where the glaze is chipped in an extremely small place. I almost missed this--it is hidden by the branch--and only discovered it when I ran my finger over it. The edges of both pieces are completely fine.
