    Description

English Victorian Large Blue & White Spongeware Pitcher.
In the Victorian period, Ironstone pottery was developed in the
Staffordshire potteries.  It was introduced as a more economical
    Alternative to porcelain.
This is a lovely example of a large ironstone jug, decorated with a sponge ware
Design which was dipping a sponge into the glaze and making a design around
The object.  This became a very popular style of decorating in the middle of the
    Victorian period.
A larger pitcher, mostly likely used as a water pitcher,
this lovely piece would be wonderful as a Container
for flowers or simply as a stand alone decorative item.
    Found in England.
